After moving into your new home, you’ll probably notice the offensive onslaught of bright light and heat along with the simultaneous lack of privacy. That’s because your windows are naked. One of those new home essentials that will make a world of difference, window treatments transform a space in so many ways. In addition to helping control light, temperature and privacy, they contribute to the overall look and feel of a room. Fortunately, there are covering options galore to customize to your style.

2. Lighting

Another item that tops our list of things to buy for a new house is lighting. Most homes do not come complete with fixtures, and if they do, chances are they are not your style at all. From chandeliers and pendants, to floor lamps and table lamps, there are a lot of ways to illuminate your space. Luckily, you have a plethora of designs to choose from, so you can find the perfect finishes, shapes and materials for your home.

3. Floor Coverings

If you have tile or hardwood flooring, you may be hesitant to cover them, but you’ll definitely want to soften those babies up. Houseplants literally liven up any room by adding an element of nature that helps bring the outside in. There are a variety of low-maintenance, air-purifying options that have even been known to reduce stress.

5. Electronics and Appliances

A first home essentials checklist has to include electronics and appliances to ensure your space works as efficiently as possible. Whether you want standard pieces or state-of-the-art everything, you’ll want to confirm what comes with the house and what doesn’t, so you know exactly what to buy. From your washer/dryer, to your refrigerator/freezer, there are quite a few items you won’t want to live without for very long.

6. Mattress

Your new home shopping list wouldn’t be complete without this very comfortable, very essential piece - a mattress. Moving house is one of the best excuses we can think of to get a new mattress. Since you’re already upgrading your space, you might as well upgrade your sleep.You may even be switching sizes from queen to king, so that’s all the more reason to make sure you find the perfect mattress.
